Kayakers

Our Glacier Bay & Icy Strait Sea Kayaking package includes the best paddling the area has to offer — without giving up any of the creature comforts.

Each day, you'll experience the diversity of the area from the seat of a kayak, and with one of our knowledgeable local guides. By late afternoon, we'll transport you back to the Gustavus Inn, where a hot shower and a gourmet dinner of locally-caught seafood and garden-grown vegetables awaits you.

This package is perfect for beginner or advanced kayakers who are not interested in a camping trip, but still want to experience the best of the area, from the unique perspective of being “kayak close.”

Coast Mountains

Day 2:  Wilderness Isles Sea Kayaking - Kayak with us to the shores of the Pleasant Island Wilderness area, where your guide will lead you on a hike through the old growth temperate rainforests of the island.  Watch for seals, eagles, and sea otters today.

Day 3:  Sea kayak in Glacier Bay National Park – Kayak with Glacier Bay Sea Kayaks in Bartlett Cove, Glacier Bay.  This trip will take you through the lower reaches of the bay.  Keep an eye out for moose and black bears.

Day 4:  Glacier Bay Day Cruise - Relax today and take in the sights.  This all-day catamaran cruise into the bay is the best way to see the glaciers and wildlife of the upper-bay in a single day.  Keep an eye out for mountain goats, brown bears, and calving glaciers.

Day 5:  Whales Day Trip – Spend the day sea kayaking with one of the densest populations of feeding humpback whales in Alaska.  The feeding grounds at Pt. Adolphus are a great place to watch these enormous but graceful animals feast on krill and small fish.  Watch for breaching whales and packs of sea lions.

Day 6:  Depart Gustavus. (Additional days and activities are available upon request).

Did You Know?

Harbor seals have a highly developed diving metabolism that allows them to hold their breath for up to two hours. They store most of the oxygen in their blood and muscle instead of their lungs.
