Canada

Unless you are in Alaska already, you have to go through or over Canada to get here. Here's how. Maybe you'll decide it's worth stopping on the way.

Vancouver, Prince George, and Prince Rupert are coastal British Columbia communities you might want to know about.

B.C. Railway is a way to get between Vancouver and Prince George, British Columbia

Via Rail Canada connects points throughout Canada.

Greyhound Lines of Canada provides bus service throughout Canada and into Alaska.

B.C. Ferries links coastal British Columbia communities, including Prince Rupert, where you can transfer to the Alaska Marine Highway.

Washington State

Washington has long served as the "gateway to Alaska," but we concede that it has amenities of its own to offer, as well!

Bellingham is the southern terminus of the Alaska Marine Highway.

The ancestral home of the Tlingit people who now live across Icy Strait in Hoonah was Glacier Bay. They were evicted by advancing glaciers during the Little Ice Age — which reached its peak just 250 years ago.
